  • Bread Pizza is a quick, instant and tasty variation of pizza recipe made on griddle or tawa or pan. The bread base mimics the pizza base with veggie toppings. Of course the taste of bread pizza is different than the original Veg Pizza. In this post I am sharing two super easy ways to make bread pizza.
  1. Bread Pizza made on a skillet, pan or tawa (with pizza sauce)
  2. Veggie Bread Pizza made in the oven (without pizza sauce)

The recipes are easy to make for a brunch or evening snack. In fact you can easily double or triple the recipes and make for small get togethers or parties.

Bread Pizza on a Skillet, Pan or Tawa

This recipe is one of those snacks that you can make when you get pizza cravings. You just need a fresh loaf of bread, a really good pizza sauce (I would definitely recommend a homemade Pizza Sauce) and some veggies.

Bread: You can use any variety of bread to make bread pizza like whole wheat flour bread or white bread or multi-grain bread or brown bread or wheat sandwich bread. You can even use a couple of days old bread.

Heating: Also do use a heavy tawa or pan. If you use a tawa or skillet that is not heavy, then the bread can get burnt from the bottom. Low heating is the key here as it slowly creates a nice golden crust on the base of the bread.

Base sauce: Generally pizza sauce is used to make a pizza. But in this recipe, you can use white sauce and even pesto sauce as the base sauce. The recipe uses pizza sauce. You can easily make the tomato pizza sauce at home. I have shared the recipe here – Pizza Sauce

Toppings: For the toppings, you can use veggies of your choice. I always stick to onions, tomatoes and capsicum (bell pepper). I also like to add some olives. Sometimes I add steamed sweet corn too. You can even use baby corn, sautéed mushrooms or sautéed spinach.

Serving Suggestions: Serve bread pizza plain or accompanied with pizza sauce or tomato ketchup

Bread Pizza on Tawa

Toasting Bread

1. Heat a heavy tawa or pan or griddle. Spread about ½ to 1 teaspoon olive oil on it. You can even use butter instead of olive oil. Keep the flame to its lowest. Do use a heavy tawa or pan or else the bread can get too much browned or burnt from the bottom. Also, keep the flame to its lowest when making the entire recipe.

2. Place bread slice on it. You can keep 1 to 2 bread slices at a time depending on the size of the tawa or pan. You can use any variety of bread like white bread, whole wheat or brown bread or multi grain bread.

3. Lightly toast the bread from the base and then flip it.

4. Now quickly spread some pizza sauce on the lightly toasted side. For pizza sauce recipe, you can check here – Pizza sauce

5. Quickly top with small onion cubes. Chop all the veggies and keep it ready before you start preparing the pizza.

6. Then quickly place capsicum cubes. Keep the cubes small. While adding the topping keep the flame to its lowest. you can also switch off the flame when you add toppings on the pizza

7. Now top quickly with small tomato cubes. Also, add some sliced olives. Both tomatoes and olives are optional and you can skip them. You can even add steamed corn kernels or sautéed mushrooms. Sautéed spinach can also be added.

8. Sprinkle dried herbs like oregano, basil. Also add some crushed black pepper or black pepper powder. You can even add fresh basil leaves instead of dried basil. The addition of black pepper is optional. You can even use pizza seasoning instead of adding dried herbs separately.

9. Now quickly top with grated mozzarella cheese or pizza cheese.

10. Keep the flame to its lowest. Place a lid on the bread pizza.

11. Cook till cheese melts and the bread is toasted.

12. Remove with a spatula and place it on a serving plate. Sprinkle some red chili flakes or oregano if you want. Red chili flakes can be skipped also.

12. Serve bread pizza hot plain or accompanied with tomato sauce or pizza sauce.
